The WFA Cup – Overview

The WFA Cup, organised by The Wheelchair Football Association (WFA), is a key competition for Powerchair Football clubs across England. The tournament follows a knockout format, with teams drawn at random and playing “on the road” in a series of exciting matches.

The initial stages of the Cup are organised into North and South regions, allowing teams to compete within their geographical areas. This regional split helps to create a more manageable and competitive environment in the early rounds.

The final of the WFA Cup is held at St George’s Park as part of the FA’s Disability Cup Weekend. St George’s Park, with its excellent facilities, provides a fitting setting for the conclusion of the Cup. The FA Disability Cup, which includes the WFA Cup final, is now in its sixth year and is the largest national competition of its kind in England. It offers players in impairment-specific football a significant platform to showcase their skills and aim for a top spot.

The competition has grown steadily over the years. In the 2023/24 season, a record 27 teams participated in the Cup, making it one of the largest impairment-specific football tournaments globally. Additionally, winning the WFA Cup grants the champion automatic qualification for the European Champions Cup every two years, providing a valuable opportunity to compete on an international level.
