Coach Education

The WFA recognise the importance of having a workforce with the necessary skills required to support the development and running of our game. As an organisation, we have designed and implemented an education programme to address this.

The Introduction to Coaching Powerchair Football training course provides participants with an understanding of Powerchair Football.  Theory, including equipment, rules of the game and insight into the types of disability players have run smoothly alongside participants learning about the skills and match play involved in the sport.

Our coaching course blends the knowledge and experience of those from within disability and football, combining the two in order to produce our coaches.

Approved by The FA, this course is delivered by The WFA, due to the expertise required. The WFA would recommend all coaches look to attend additional FA training to continue their development.

We believe that Coach Education serves many varied purposes, including:

  1. Player Development: The primary role of coaches is to help players develop their skills and reach their full potential. Coaches who are well-trained in powerchair football can provide players with the guidance, support, and feedback they need to improve their performance, build their confidence, and achieve their goals.

  2. Safety of the Players: Coaches also have a responsibility to ensure the safety of their players. They must be trained to identify and prevent potential safety hazards during practice and games, and to teach their players how to play the game safely.

  3. Promoting Inclusion: Coaching training can help promote inclusion and diversity in the sport. Coaches who are trained in powerchair football can create a welcoming and inclusive environment for players of all abilities and backgrounds, which helps to build a sense of community and belonging.

  4. Building Team Culture: Coaches play a vital role in building team culture and promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and respect for opponents. Coaches who are well-trained in powerchair football can help create a positive and supportive team culture that fosters growth, learning, and mutual respect.

  5. Promoting the Sport: Coach Education also helps to promote the sport of powerchair football. Well-trained coaches can help to raise awareness about the sport, attract new players and fans, and contribute to the growth and development of The WFA.

In summary, coach education is crucial for the Wheelchair Football Association to promote player development, ensure player safety, promote inclusion, build team culture, and promote the sport.
