EPFA HEAD OF REFEREES

May 2021

EPFA Head of European Referees appointment

The Wheelchair Football Association is celebrating Steve Baxter’s appointment as EPFA’s Head of European Referees. Refereeing for over a decade, Steve has established himself as one of the worlds elite referees, officiating countless national and international competitions with distinction.

In addition to his officiating duties, Steve serves as a key member of the WFA Executive Committee. Steve was also instrumental in setting up and chairing the South East Powerchair Football League (SEPFL). Formulated in 2014, The SEPFL is now one of England’s most successful Regional League competitions with 14 competing teams.

The WFA would also like to extend a huge congratulations to Nico Balin for his appointment as EPFA’s Assistant Head of European Referees.

Steve and Nico will help to develop and support new and existing referees within the European Zone. Both bring great experience and passion to these roles and will work closely with FIPFA’s Head of Referees to ensure the future is bright for the development and progression of the referee program in Europe.

Steve commented:

“I am delighted to have been selected as the Head of Refereeing for the European Powerchair Football Association. I am enthusiastic about the prospect of working with Nico Balin, as he brings a wealth of refereeing experience that we can use to develop the match official role within the European Zone. In doing so, we will be building on the good work done by my predecessor Martin Bevan.

Powerchair Football has made many great advances in recent years, so it is vital that as referees, we keep pace with these developments and support the growth of the game and the many improvements made by players and coaches.

Like or loathe them, Referees are essential in upholding the values of fair play and protecting the game. I look forward to supporting and working with referee colleagues across Europe to maintain and improve the standard of refereeing and to provide a clear pathway in European competition.”
