Rotherham Powerchair Football

Rotherham Powerchair Football

We are delighted to partner with the Rotherham United Community Sports Trust and Sheffield & Hallamshire County Football Association to introduce powerchair football opportunities to the area.

Powerchair Football is a unique sport that provides opportunities for people with a high level of impairment to access the game of football. It is a dynamic and fast-paced version of football adapted for electric wheelchair (powerchair) users. It is typically played on a 30m x 18m basketball court. Two teams of four players (including the goalkeeper) pass, dribble, and spin-kick an oversized football as they try to score more goals than the opposing team.

Players compete in specially designed powerchairs for the sport of powerchair football. Metal foot guards are attached to the front of the powerchairs, allowing players to kick the ball. Players’ spin’ to generate power, striking the ball with the side of the guard for the strongest hits, although often using the front bars of the guard results in a more accurate impact.

Surrey Powerchair Football Festival

The Wheelchair Football Association, supported by the Shots Foundation and Surrey FA, is pleased to announce details of a Powerchair Football Festival in Surrey, which is to take place on Saturday, July 24.

Do you have a physical disability and live in Surrey or surrounding areas? If so, and you want to play football, why not come along and try Powerchair Football?

Powerchair Football is a unique sport that provides opportunities for people with a high level of impairment to access football.  It is the only active team participation sport for people who use electric wheelchairs.

The sport is fast-paced, dynamic and very enjoyable to watch.  Due to the unique nature of Powerchair Football, it allows all ages, disabilities and both genders to compete together.

Powerchair Football enables disabled people to participate in regular activity and provides them with competition – something that the majority will never have, or rarely, experienced before due to their impairment.

The session is open to all ages. Equipment is provided but is limited – your registration provides us with information to help and contact you once the festival has taken place.

Please complete the short registration form below to attend the Powerchair Football festival.

Return to Football- Q&A

RETURN TO FOOTBALL Q&A

RETURN TO FOOTBALL Q&A

On Wednesday, April 21st at 7:00 pm, we will be hosting a ‘Return to Football Question and Answer’ workshop to assist clubs, coaches, players and parents with their respective return to training.

We have provided two separate forms (below); the first is a registration form to attend the Q&A, the second is a form to submit your questions and queries for consideration before the meeting. We encourage all participants to submit their questions beforehand.

Current government guidance means that, theoretically, we can permit activity up to Stage 3 of our roadmap (attached beside) at this time. This is due to the current government exemption on the number of people able to participate in an indoor disability sporting activity and exemption on social contact limits. However, we are advising clubs to deliver activity at Stage 1 of our roadmap at this initial return. This is due to the following reasons:

  • The is our first return to activity since March 2020
  • Understanding the needs of our community
  • Listening to the feedback provided from members on an initial return to play

We encourage all coaches, team staff, COVID-19 officers and club volunteers to complete the free ReActivate COVID-19 awareness training. Funded by Sport England and CIMPSA accredited, ReActivate training provides you with the skills and knowledge to return to activity: https://cimspa-reactivate.uk/reactivatetrain.

This Q&A is available for all members of the WFA community. Registration closes at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, April 21st.

The Roadmap has been developed with anticipated changes in social distancing and relaxation in regulations of indoor facilities. Therefore it is constantly under review and is subject to change.

Please Note: If you are under 18, we advise you to attend the session with a parent.
